Download the draft of the Proposed Bedford County Fire Ordinance
October 25, 2006
On September 27th, during the joint meeting of the Fire and Rescue Associations, County staff presented draft revisions to the County ordinance for Fire Prevention and Protection. At that time, input and recommendations were received from the volunteer agencies to improve the draft. The revised ordinance is attached for your further review and consideration. You will find that the revised draft incorporates much of the input we received on the 27th. Specifically, this includes: • Clarification of the Department’s role in any termination(s) • Clarification of the process for revocation of privileges • Clarification of the process for dissolution and inclusion of a notification period • Inclusion of language specific to minor volunteers for EMS • Clarification of role of OMD as coordinating rather than supervising • Inclusion of language specific to BREMS and the Western Region The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to address this matter again during a work session on December 11, 2006. No formal action will be taken at that time. After the work session and at such time as the Board is satisfied that proposed revisions to the Ordinance are complete and appropriate, a public hearing will be held prior to final adoption of any revisions. Thank you for your active participation in refining this section of our Ordinance. As discussed at the joint meeting, this material will be made available for additional comment on the County’s Fire and Rescue web page. I would also encourage you to call or email Chief Jones or myself with any further input or questions you may have. Sincerely, Frank J. Rogers Assistant County Administrator (540)586-7601 f.rogers@co.bedford.va.us
