High-Tech Investigative Unit

One of the newest aspects of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office is our High-Tech Investigative Unit.  These deputies patrol cyberspace in an effort to crack down on child pornography distributed over the internet and other computer-related crimes.  Although this Unit is relatively new, our successes have garnered the attention of local, national and international media... and that of the U.S. Dept. of Justice which, in October 1998, awarded the BCSO a $200,000 grant to continue our efforts.  The BCSO was one of only ten law enforcement agencies in America to receive such grant money.  Click here to read the text of a newspaper article about this state-of-the-art undercover Unit and the landmark grant.  For even more media coverage and information, visit Operation Blue Ridge Thunder online.
