Community DevelopmentDivision of Planning & Zoning
The Planning and Zoning Division manages the County's Comprehensive Planning Program and coordinates the County's development review process. This division administers the County Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. The Planning and Zoning Division also provides staff support for the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals. Activities managed by this division include rezoning and special use permit review, assistance in site plan/subdivision plat review and evaluation, development and maintenance of the Comprehensive Plan and other planning activities involving transportation, housing, public facilities and utilities, and resource protection. This division also is responsible for enforcing the Zoning Ordinance.
The Division of Planning's Technical Review Committee (TRC) coordinates plan review of projects that require regulatory agency approval by the Bedford County Public Service Authority, Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, Virginia Health Department and City of Bedford.
