seal

The Division of Natural Resources is responsible for organizing, coordinating and implementing all programs dealing with natural resources in Bedford County, primarily soil, water, forestry, agriculture, open space and shoreline protection. The Department issues Land Disturbing Permits for development, which involves oversight of plan review, administration, enforcement and stormwater management based on the guidelines prescribed in the Commonwealth of Virginia Erosion and Sediment Control Law and Regulations as well as the Bedford County Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance. The Natural Resources Department also oversees the Regional Stormwater Management Plan, the Gypsy Moth Suppression Program, as well as many educational programs annually, and routinely coordinates with other local, state and federal agencies, private developers, engineering firms, and the general public regarding the County’s natural resources.
